Monday's Challenge

Challengers,

For this Challenge, we'd really like you to get involved. Share what you discover today at the Lent Challenges Blog - www.lentchallenges.blospot.com. Click the 'X Comments' link under today's post.

Monday 5th March - The Challenge:

Learn to say 'Hello' in a foreign language

Hello. Bonjour. Bom Dia. Kalimera. Jambo. Yes, that last one is Swahili. 'Hello' must be the first and most useful word to learn in any language, and, even if you're not sure where to go from there, will certainly break the ice with pretty much any person of any language around the globe. Learn as many as you can, and help others find out more by adding your findings to the blog.

Litter Pick

HIgh Street Litter Pickers

Thanks to everyone who rose to today's Challenge and joined us for a litter pick around the village.

After a lunch of hot soup, we set out in both directions from the Methodist Church, leaving no burger box, drinks can or crisp packet untouched in our quest to fill the large collection of refuse sacks donated, as well as litter collecting equipment, by the local council.

Litter-picking started at the Church and spread towards the Mining Memorial garden, Post Office and High Street, and Youth Club.

Two hours and over twenty bin-liners later, the High Street of Upton was certainly looking brighter, cleaner and better for our efforts.

A huge 'thank-you' again to all our collectors, as well as Wakefield MDC for their help in lending equipment and collecting the rubbish.

More photos on their way!
